Andrew Bonar is the founder of emailexpert.org the online email community and started in the world of email reciever side as a founder member of the UK Pobox Team, the first ever free for life email service launched in 1994. In 1996, Andrew was a founder of the UK’s oldest privately held ISP called Cheapnet Ltd. In 1998, he founded the UK’s first eCommerce payment system called eBanx Ltd. In 2003 launching his own ESP MailPhoenix that included brands like Microsoft, Rockwell and LotusNotes amongst its clients. Eventually exited with the sale of the business to its biggest client and agency. From 2006, Andrew served as an independent consultant at organizations throughout Europe, the Middle East, Asia Pacific and the US. His consulting work was focused on helping companiesto successfully leverage the email channel
In 2012 Andrew was appointed the Global Email Deliverability Director at Emailvision. Then SmartFocus overseeing delivery and deliverability in 22 countries and has travelled to most of them to deliver support on the ground with local teams. Leaving SmartFocus for another ESP CampaignMonitor and life based in Sydney Australia as Head of Deliverability and Client success. His services considered so valuable by both companies that they came to an agreement to release Andrew from his non-compete clauses. Enabling Amdrew to be retained as a consultant to SmartFocus for a full year after joining the team at Campaign Monitor. Andrew likes to believe more than anything this speaks to his integrity and professionalism.
In 2014 Andrew was widely credited with getting Gmails Anti-Spam Team to open dialogue with the commercial sending community for the first time. Andrew published the first take-aways from discussions and interviews with Sri Somanchi from the team and Andrew went on to chair a presentation and Q&A from Gmails AntiSpam team for The Email Sender and Provider Coalition.
4 years ago Andrew decided to go freelance once again and has been offering his services as a consultant to a variety of email vendors as well as a select number of large brands and some of the leading online business in Australia. In Europe he was responsible for a top to toe review of infrastructure, architecture, process and procedures at DotMailer and has provided a range of deliverability, reputation and security services to platforms globally including Klaviyo, GetResponse, Sendlane, Outreachi.io, Bonjoro and many more.
With 25 years working both receiver and sender side, Andrew has been responsible for the commercial viability of tens of thousands of email address’ and the succesfull delivery of many billions of email messages. He has spoken about reputation, deliverability and increasing the ROI from your email programs for over 10 years as far afield as China, Russia, Australia and across Europe, the US and Canada. Andrew is currently busy working on the forthcoming relaunch of emailexpert.
